Corky52's Blog

Posted by Corky52 May. 8, 2008 @ 9:25 AM EDT

Latest Update

I reached my milestone of 100 audio reviews. Next goal is 200.

I made a complete make over of my blog. It's much smaller, but everything is still there. They are just on the other blogs that I have. Don't worry there are links to them all.

--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------

About Me

Hey newgrounds. My name is Corey Fromille and I attend college at Lock Haven University. I am currently a sophomore and am majoring in Elementary Education.

My Relationship

I have a girlfriend who's name is Natasha Lovell, she has a newgrounds account if you look down to my friends list on the bottom of this blog. We will have been together for four years on August 15th. She's also attending Lock Haven University as a freshman. Her major is Athletic Training, which is a good thing because I'm always getting myself hurt, whether it's football or me just doing something that I shouldn't be doing.

Sports

On the topic of football, I played football in high school. I was our starting fullback and middle linebacker. I was going to try out for college football, but the head coach told me I was too small, so I said screw this. I then made it on a semi-pro team named the Northern Tier Bruins. On this team I start at right guard and strong safety. Is that not the weirdest combination you have ever seen?

I was also on the track team in highs cool. I ran the 100, 200, 4X100 meter relay, and threw shot put. My times go as the following -

100 - 11.55 seconds
200 - 23.8 seconds
4X100 - 45.5 seconds
Shot put - 45 feet

The last thing that I like doing sport related is weight lifting. I might not look like the biggest guy, but I am very strong. I hold a couple of my schools weight lifting records and again here they are -

Bench - 415 pounds
Box Squat - 1,000 pounds

I have a picture of the 1,000 pounds squat on my myspace, which you can see off to the left on my website.

New to newgrounds and have a question?

This is the first place you would want to go. Help/FAQ

If you read all of that and still have a question then this is the place for you. Where is / How to? Forums

How about if you are new to the BBS? You need to read these rules.

Need a workout plan? Why not try the Newgrounds Workout? That was the thread, but here is the most updated version.

--------------------------------------

Friends List

Metal-Therapy - He is always helping people out on the where is/ how to forum and always looking for abusive reviews. He is a big stat whore and along the same lines as me would be one of the most well known users if they would of stayed on newgrounds. I also predict that he is the next owner of a Deity Whistle.

FroFro52 - What a name for a girl right? She never posts, reviews, or pretty much does anything on newgrounds. All she does is watch movies and play games, but hey she is my girlfriend and I love her so I have to add her to my friends list.

familyguy05 - He is a part of a couple of the same crews as me. The Resident Evil Club and the Zombie Survival Club. He is also the only reason that I have some flash animations under neath my blog here. He is an all around cool guy.

yoshi77777 - Also a very helpful person. I think it's safe to say that he would be considered an official stat whore. Maybe it has to do something with his good B/P level, several 100 flash animation, and his deity whistle. Speaking of the later he is actually a very helpful user for me. Pretty cool guy. And of course I love you.

Murad136 - Always trying to help people. Always trying to just be good at stuff in general on newgrounds. He writes helpful reviews, makes good quality posts, makes icons, sigs, banners, etc.. and is currently working on his flash making skills. Leader of the GS.

solardave - Makes pretty awesome sigs, banners, graphics, etc.. He doesn't think he's the best, but I think he is pretty good at it. Cool guy and is also pretty helpful. Writes really good reviews. A great addition to the GS.

MinusNick - You could explain MinusNick with one word, funny. He is a decent flash maker and is a good addition to the GS with his helpful reviews. He usually writes our Audio reviews because nobody likes to do them. If you haven't seen it check out his Keyboard Garden thread!

DemonCole - The co-owner of the Horror Club. It's a pretty cool club you should check it out. His crew and mine have actually joined, but if you read my entire blog you would have already known that. He's a pretty cool guy.

Pink-Ninja - Pink-Ninja was one of the first people to join my Ghost/Supernatural Club. He is one of the main reasons that the crew has survived and he is always putting his input in the crew.

smc316 - Hm, what can I say? He's in a lot of the same clubs that I am in and if you see me quoting someone in the clubs and crews I'm sure about 50 percent of the time it's him. He always seems to be able to spark conversation even though he gives me a rough time now and then.

YoungAndWise - The best counselor in my counseling club. In my opinion gives the best advice probably even better then me and I like to think that I give good advice. Really helpful guy and if you need anyone to talk to about your problems he would be the person to talk too.

Plsurucantmeshur - He hasn't done much on newgrounds yet, but hes my friend from back in high school. We made funny movies in high school, such as some movies about a kid name Justin Keiser who has a really big head. We still pick on him to this day. We made other movies too, such as Attack of the Killer PaperWads, Steriod Man, a news movie, etc.. I'm also advertising his store up top of my blog, so stop by and buy something.

Final Newgrounds Exercise

Posted by Corky52 Apr. 17, 2008 @ 9:26 PM EDT

Newgrounds Exercise Program

----------

Nutrition Guide
http://www.mypyramid.gov/ - This website in general is very helpful for nutrition and exercise.
http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/ind ex.aspx - Here you can figure out how much you need to eat by your body weight and activity level. If you want to lose weight eat a little less then it says to. If you want to maintain weight then eat exactly what it tells you to. If you want to gain weight then eat a little more then it tells you to.

----------

Stretching Programs
Stretching should be done before and after warm up and before and after cool down.

Lower Body - http://youtube.com/watch?v=XBmy1T-3d6I

Upper Body - http://youtube.com/watch?v=-tcutS7dFSE

Core and Mid Section -http://youtube.com/watch?v=t3oAnSou-C o

These stretches are just a basic guideline and you can adjust your stretches to your own liking.

----------

Warm up Program and Cool Down
Warm up should be down before exercise and cool down should be down after workout.
Beginner Warm Up - Jog in place for 1 minute and then do jumping jacks for 1 minute immediately after wards. Try to pace it so your heart is beating faster than your resting heart rate.

Intermediate Warm Up - Jog in place for 3 minute and then do jumping jacks for 1 minute immediately after wards. Try to pace it so your heart is beating faster than your resting heart rate.

Expert Warm Up - Jog in place for 5 minute and then do jumping jacks for 2 minute immediately after wards. Try to pace it so your heart is beating faster than your resting heart rate.

* Note - that if you have access to a place to jog outside or inside the house back and forth you will get a better workout then jogging in place.

Corky52's Guide to the BBS

Posted by Corky52 Apr. 13, 2008 @ 5:28 PM EDT

This is a list of guide lines on how to post on the forums. These are primarily taken from gumonshoe, but with his permission I used his as a rough draft and have edited just a little bit. I also have added a second section where I have a program going on where people can take newer users, and via the PM system, teach them how to post early on so they don't start spamming or + 1ing at a early post count because that is all they see around general.

----------

This is the original copy.

Other than his news post he made a topic about it here.

----------

Other useful links are listed below.

Official Topics
Gumonshoe's Blogoshpere
Making a Club
BBS Rules

----------

Corky52's Version

A forum is about more than just the opening post. A forum is a discussion. Even more than that, it is a central gathering point for many people to discuss things. For that reason, it might be a good idea to treat each reply as if you were making a new topic. That is, unless you can justify it, find it interesting, etc, just don't post.

Here are a few basic guidelines on what not to do.

1)TL;DR

The entire reason for making posts is to read. This means longer posts are actually encouraged. If you don't want to read then posting isn't really for you.

2) Don't care

Since every post is suppose to contribute to a thread, then stop and think before saying that you don't care. More times then not someone is going to find the topic interesting, even if you don't. This type of post doesn't contribute what so ever.

3) <insert insult>

All this does is result in a flame war. All flame wars do is bring the thread off topic and defeats the whole purpose of a thread.

4) /thread

There are only a select few who decide this and it actually isn't you believe it or not. Leave this decision to the mods and/or administrators.

5) this is against the rules

Plain and simple, don't post in a topic if it breaks the rules. You will save yourself the bans in the long run anyway.

6) use the search bar

Please don't state this unless you are actually linking to the search bar with the same topic, or to the actually topic that you are talking about. Sometimes even if something has been done before it's about time that it's been done again instead of bumping an old dead topic.

7) Win/Fail

Win/Fail = Fail. Plain and simple.

8) This thread/topic is now about ________

Again, taking a thread off topic defeats the entire purpose of a thread. This is really just being an ass, just stay away from it.

If you don't care, didn't read, or want to talk about something else, then you aren't staying on subject, which means that you either need to:

1) Create a new topic
2) Don't do anything
3) Think harder and/or read

----------

Helping New Users

As you can see in this topic right here, which I made in the where is/how to forum we have came up with some ideas to help newer users, and overall help the BBS become a better place. To do this all you have to do is make quality posts and take newer users off to the side, via the pm system, and help them learn how to post properly. I have helped a couple of users in their posts so far and I have seen great improvement already. It may not fix everything at once, but it really does help even if it's one person at a time.

To the users with quality posts and more experience, if you would, try and help Newgrounds out with this plan.

Corky52's Guide to Abusive Reviews.

Posted by Corky52 Apr. 11, 2008 @ 11:26 PM EDT

Corky52's Guide to Abusive Reviews

To new users you haven't seen the rules here they are.

http://www.newgrounds.com/lit/faq

Then click on reviewing submissions.

----------

Here is the place where you want to go to find abusive reviews easier, but remember that not everything here is abusive. More then half of it actually isn't. Use your head when marking things.

Please do not post there if you are not contributing by answering a question or by providing a link to abusive reviews. Do not post there to talk about how your whistle status changed. You can post without a link if you are staying on topic or you are asking a question.

-----------

Also, when you write a review you get this little reminder.

If you are giving this submission a low score, please offer constructive criticism that will be useful to the artist. The review space is not a place for you to act like a total asshole. If your review is found to be mean, offensive, or generally not helpful, you will be banned and your account may be terminated. NOTE: Any attempt to promote an outside, unrelated website in this space will result in the deletion of your user account.

-----------

Trust me and many other users if you completely follow these rules by the book you will have a garbage whistle in no time. You may say, "Why am I listening to this guy? He has a garbage whistle too!" I would like to say that I will probably always have a garbage whistle, because I am about 10,000 or more points in the hole. This was from when I first started marking reviews as abusive because they did break the rules. To come and find out almost none of these reviews were found abusive, only useless even though they break the rules. I'm making this to try and help some people before they get into a hole like mine.

-----------

First off you need to know that when you get an abusive review right you get 1 whistle point. When you get one wrong you get negative 20 whistle points. When you mark a movie as abusive correctly you get about 10 whistle points and when you get one wrong you get about negative 100 or so. These estimates came from my endless questions from asking review mods.

-----------

I have resorted to marking reviews that are like the following:

Blam this - This will always get deleted so mark it.

You suck, your gay, you're a fag, go die in a fire - Anything that attacks the author or calls him names will always get deleted.

This is stolen - The review space should never be used to say something is stolen, even if it really is stolen. This will always get deleted.

Chain Mail - Another thing that will get deleted 100 percent of the time.

Unrelated Website - Notice I said unrelated. This is usually really easy too tell though. But if somebody see's a movie and said " Oh, I once saw this on www.flasharcade.com " ( random example ) then that would be considered a related website, unless they are just posting the same website over and over.

Flooding - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Only mark this if it takes up more than four lines and 90 percent of the review space. No less in either just to stay on the safe side.

-----------

If you mark only what I said too then you will never get a garbage whistle. It may be a very slow process, but it's the surest way of doing it. Here are things that you should leave alone.

This sucks, this is gay, this fucking sucks - Even though it breaks the rules because it doesn't leave a constructive criticism I rarely ever see reviews like this get deleted. They are usually just considered useless.

Old reviews - People say reviews from 05 are alright to mark, but honestly just leave them alone. Leave to marking things that just happened recently. This is the real way to clean up newgrounds, not by marking old reviews nobody will ever see.

Spam Submissions - No whistle points from marking reviews on spam submissions, so just stay away.

-----------

Now let's move onto marking movies. Be careful, because sometimes you have seen the game somewhere else, but that doesn't mean it is stolen. It could be the person that owns the website actually submitting it to newgrounds.

Another thing to be very careful about is when the author comes right out and says it stolen. This is rare, but an author might be saying they stole the movie just for people to mark it wrong and ruin their whistle. It has been done before. This information also came from a mod.

-----------

I hope this helps.

My Clubs.

Posted by Corky52 Mar. 27, 2008 @ 3:23 PM EDT

Here are all the clubs that I belong to.

Fan Clubs

Madness Combat Crew

Here people that are fans of Krinkles Madness series can join and talk about anything Madness related.

Newgrounds Orchestra Crew

This club is for discussions on how to play better on piano/sax/guitar/violin/etc and what to play. I am the official reviewer of the club, so anyone who wants their audio reviewed post it there.

Slacker Club

Well the title is pretty self explanatory. If you procrastinate or don't work hard when you should you should join here. I usually do work hard, but on those days when I just don't feel like doing anything I post around here.

American Football Crew

You don't have to ask to join here. You just have to love to talk about football!

The Newgrounds Gym

You can look here for weightlifting or exercise advice. I usually update this club every time I make a update to my Newgrounds Workout.

Chocolate Milk Club

Everyone should be a member of this! I mean all you have to do is have a sweet tooth!!!

Rate Me Club

Here you can rate other newgrounds members on things such as B/P, sig, userpage header, etc.. or get yours rated.

--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------

Helpful Clubs

The Newground's Department of Defense

There are departments that are structured to help defend newgrounds. The departments are Audio, Flash, and BBS.

Review Request Club

Requests for reviews come in through here and all of the members review the submissions. It's a good way to get your review count up if you are feeling lazy.

The Pre-Portal Review Crew

Here you link to movies that you plan on submitting to newgrounds and people review them so you know what to fix before you actually submit it to the portal!

Newgrounds Mafia

This crews whole purpose is to help newgrounds and make it a closer family. We hold reviews and B/P competitions.

Counseling Club

Here you can talk about your problems or help someone out with problems in an environment where you won't get picked on.

Relationship Crew

Come here if you are having relationship problems. I would love to help!

--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------

Science Fiction and Horror Clubs

Silent Hill Club

This is currently a very inactive club, so we are always looking for new members. Right now a couple of members and I are creating a Silent Hill movie. It will be linked in the club when finished and you will always be able to find it here on my flashes.

Resident Evil Club

I really love Resident Evil. I love the books, games, and movies. If you guys like Resident Evil you should check it out and join.

Zombie Survival Club

To join you have to write out a plan on how you would survive a zombie outbreak. When you become a member you can then review other people's plans so they can become members.

Ghost / Supernat. Club

Here you can tell your real life Ghost Stories, discuss other people's stories, and share your feelings about ghost videos that you find over the internet!

The Horror Club

We talk about anything Horror related here, whether it be books, movies, or video games! You have to list your top 15 favorite horror movies to join.

Corky52's Guide to Writing Helpful Reviews

Posted by Corky52 Nov. 26, 2007 @ 11:51 PM EST

Corky52's Guide to Helpful Reviews

Before I got started if you want to see really good reviews then check out AnalPenguinFarming's Reviews. They are honestly the best reviews that you can find.

----------

Are you reviews basically, "This was awesome!" or "This sucks"?

Every time I see reviews like this I mark them as useless because that's exactly what they are. When making a review like that it doesn't help the author at all and that is the whole point of a review.

----------

A review should contain some of the following things -

1) What you liked about the flash, even if it's just something small. There has to be something that the author did right.

2) What you disliked about the flash, even if you loved the flash, there must be something that could be better.

3) What the author can do to fix their problems or make their flash better.

----------

When I write my reviews I like to break them up into the following sections.

Animation / Graphics - Here you talk about how the quality, the smoothness, and the color. Write if it looks good and whether better colors could have been used. If you are experienced in flash you can give tips on how to improve the animation.

Ex. - Animation / Graphics - It was nice to see a little bit of animation in your dress up game. That is something that is missing from most games like that. Maybe you could add a couple other animated things next time you make a dress up game. Also, the drawings were done pretty good. Not the best I have ever seen, but again pretty good.

Story - Here you write about the quality of the story. Was it good and did it make sense? Also, was it interesting? If it is suppose to be random or is suppose to prove a point then rate it on how well its random or how well it proves it's point. If it's a game that doesn't have a story behind it then rate on how easy the controls were and whether it could have been longer, have more levels, etc..

Ex - Story - There really isn't much of a story. It's just your generic dress-up game. It does look like you were going for more of the heavy metal style here. The controls were also very easy to use since all they were was click your mouse and drag.

Audio - This is more important than some people think. Was there sound? If so just write about it. Write about the quality and whether it ran well together with the flash or not.

Ex - Audio - Heavy metal alright man! I recommend putting some other choices of songs on there too with a menu so people can select from different songs. Audio is always a big plus when making a dress up game. It really adds to the overall quality.

Overall - This is the category where you describe what you think about the flash overall. Write about your final thoughts of the flash, etc..

Ex - Overall, not bad. It's a pretty good especially for a first time dress up game. I recommend you make another one, or maybe update this one with some of the effects and things that I mentioned. I'm sure the score of this flash would go up a little, or your next one would have a higher score. I will also recommend it to the dress up collection.
